Well, the numbers are in, according to our ultrasound today, the baby weighs approximately 9 pounds and 14 ounces . The margin of error for these type of measurements is basically 1 pound. Needless to say, the sonographer and Dr Smith were astounded. He is still head down and looking very healthy. Speaking of his head, it is approximately the size of a 41 week baby. The ultrasound was really neat, because we could see he has hair and we were able to see him 'breathe'. Other than that, we couldn't see much, because there is not a lot of room in there! My fluid levels and placenta were still good and healthy.
So, after much conversation with Dr Smith, it was decided to schedule an elective c-section, rather than wait for him to come on his own, and risk him weighing 12-13 pounds. The doctor felt that laboring with a baby that size was risky and could end up in a c-section anyway. Plus, he not only has a large head, but large shoulders and abdomen, and she was worried about the shoulders especially 'fitting'. We feel confident in our decision, and it will probably be Friday the 20th or Saturday the 21st. The nurse will call us tomorrow with the schedule.
We are really excited and as always were glad to see his is still healthy and happy :-). I was still in good shape too, BP was normal, no swelling in my hands or feet, and I haven't gained any weight in the past few weeks.
We'll update soon with the date!

I just want to add - for the benefit of those reading this - how fabulously proud of Amanda I am. I know we've all enjoyed reading about Jack as he's grown, but she's had to carry him around for the last 8 1/2 months, and she hasn't grumbled about it once. She's done such a great job growing this 'little' guy, and has been so tolerant of both him and me during the whole thing. Thanks love!
Oh - and does anyone need any 'newborn' size diapers, seems we won't have much use for them ;-).
I vote the 21st. But that's just because it's easy to remember. I can't believe he's almost here! Congrats guys - we can't wait to see pics.
Way to go Phil and Amanda- looks like you've got a prospective NFL all-star line backer in waiting! It's always good to see a big, healthy baby being born. Speaking from experience, we tiny preemies tend to cause lots of worries.
